Basic Subsea Pipeline Design
Subsea pipeline design is the design of pipelines to transport liquid or gas from the deep sea to either processing plants onshore or offshore processing plants like FPSO’s (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessels.
To achieve this, pipelines are used to connect from the production source (typically a well head) to the procesing plant.
Pipelines can be short, a few kilometres lon to even thousand’s of kilometers. Designing them to withstand Mother Nature and yet to respect Mother Nature’s children is what subsea engineering is all about.
Code and Standards
Several international codes and standards governs to design of subsea pipelines. The codes have guidelines on how these pipelines are to be designed and constructed, to ensure that these pipelines will not rupture nor leak throughout their design life.
